A very teachable summer

This last year has been full of changes for me. I’ve been learning so much about letting things go, creating and sticking to boundaries, and taking in new opportunities.
With that, I’ve been doing a lot more teaching, in various venues and to different groups around the city. I had a great three weeks of helping out and doing art with kids at the literacy camp at my part-time non profit gig. I returned to my favorite age group, the 2-5 year old friends, whom I see weekly at Lily Pad. Each week, I provide them with an inspirational work (be it a picture book or an artist/artwork) to spark their creativity, and then put a variety of media in their hands to let them explore. So many funny quips and first uses of scissors with this group!
I also finished my sixth season at my “summer gig” at Wednesdays in the Woods with the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. We added a nature/science element to the projects this year, which was a fun challenge for me, as I had to delve into the K-3 Science Standards. My little guy can finally stay up a little later, so it was nice to have him there with me. I also added a six-week Monday morning art class in another park with the CCAC.
And, to top that all off, I’ve been playing with glass and teaching some glass art classes at Brazee Street Studios. It’s been great to be back in an environment with other artists, and to use their knowledge and expertise to best teach this new media for me.
I am trying to organize the chaos that comes with all of this change and so many moving pieces. Other goals include: have fun, make more art, and stay active with my site. One way to do that is to post my upcoming classes and events, so I’ve finally re-enabled the “classes and events” tab. Maaaaaybe I’ll even get around to posting copies of my books to sell here, or some little fuzzy critters. Baby steps, y’all.
