art is a verb (at least in this post)
For the last year, I've primarily done my artwork while sitting in my bed, rewatching Gilmore Girls or something like that. Which is fine, because things are getting done, and I'm able to create while being happy/sad that Emily Gilmore is not my mother.
I received this little book for Christmas from my husband. I tucked it away on my bedside table until this evening, when I needed to unplug for a while after a long day with an overtired almost 4 year-old. Steal Like An Artist told me what I needed to hear tonight. "Just art, lady," it told me. Look at art. Make art. Talk about art. Write about art. Post about art. Take pictures of art. As you can see, I started immediately taking notes, jotting down ideas, and doodling. The biggest thing that I took from this is that carving out a time and a place for art making is important. I'll probably rearrange the space a hundred times, and I'll probably skip days in the studio. And I still won't post as often as I'd like to. But, I will art more.
